Ironically with all the early 2010 snow and cold weather, global warming is still a prevalent subject. Unfortunately the environment issue is not just a fad that will just disappear overnight. The spotlight has fallen on the furniture industry and we in the UK must set an example for others. The British public have an ethical conscience, yet judging by the constant TV sofa adverts cannot resist a (imported) bargain.
Certain national companies will ascertain their goods are ethically sourced and manufactured, but from our experience there will always be unscrupulous individuals who are less than compliant with environmental issues. With the huge distance between the UK and the Far East, any carbon savings made will be burnt up on the container ship anyway.
The British furniture must follow in the footsteps of the food industry. This will radically reduce our sectors carbon footprint, and the cost of fuel will cut costs.
